family tradition of making fine chocolate & conditionery
Federice Estates EST. 2020
Our story has been 40 years in the making. It had its genesis in 1982 with our first commercial planting of rubber trees on the 16 hectares of a State leasehold in Angoram district, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea. Intercropping was encouraged and so cocoa trees were introduced among the rubber trees. The cocoa trees proved as the mainstay because rubber did not yield as much income as cocoa for a rural-based family. Cocoa supported the upbringing of six siblings and ensured a rural Papua New Guinean family’s wellbeing and success over time. In 2019, the family made a bold venture into cocoa processing with cocoa by-products for the world market. Aging rubber trees made way for new high yielding cocoa clone trees. A year earlier, first trials of chocolate making over the kitchen bench started. This experiment led to 2023 by which time Federice Estates were truly forging ahead on a brave new journey with its local partner farmers in small-scale commercial processing of cocoa liquor, cocoa powder and cocoa butter with niche chocolate as our secondary products.
Worth Embracing!
Our ethos is grounded in our history while embracing our present circumstances and shaping our way ahead. We are an integral part of a bigger family of small-holder cocoa farmers in a dispersed rural society in the Sepik region. The farmers earn less than USD3 per day. We are consciously partnering these farmers and have embraced them on a shared journey to offer high quality cocoa by products from our single origin organic cocoa gardens to the world.
We work diligently with the mums and dads in their small-holder cocoa plots to ensure quality and consistency of produce and supply. Collectively, we merit constant supply of high quality dry raw cocoa beans for the Federice Estates owned and operated 10kg/day production facility in Wewak, East Sepik Province. From this facility we bring our products to the market. It is a small start backed by a bold dream. Time will be our judge.
Our Origin
Our single origin cocoa is from the rich and fertile flood plains of the mighty Sepik River in the Angoram district, Papua New Guinea.
